Data Quality

The NRCPR ensures data quality through extensive built-in data quality checks, a wide variety of training options, and data collector certification.

Built-In Data Quality Checks

The NRCPR Data Collection Software has extensive, built-in data quality checks to ensure that data is complete, accurate, and of high quality. Checks are active on each field as you enter data as well as on a summary level for each record. Types of data quality checks include data completeness, range, date order, validity, etc.

Quality Training Options

The NRCPR has a variety of quality training options available which help ensure that all participants are abstracting and interpreting data in the same way, as well as increase the success rate on the certification exam. Training options include live web-based training sessions, and self-paced, interactive web-based training.

NRCPR training significantly decreases the data collection burden. On average, trained participants complete charts in consideraby less time (depending on the type of event) than untrained participants.

Data Collector Certification

In addition to the built-in data quality checks and on-line operational definitions contained within its software, the NRCPR also provides each hospital a software based certification process to protect the quality of data provided for the central registry.

The goal of data abstractor certification is to facilitate the provision of accurate, valuable reported data for each facility and help assure the validity and reliability of the national registry. Each NRCPR data abstractor is required to successfully complete the NRCPR Certification Process prior to abstracting data for the NRCPR.
